Winnie is from Hong Kong. She worked for the Hong Kong government as a civil servant, serving in various departments as a Chinese Language Officer for five years. Posted to District Board, Trade and Housing Departments, she provided translation and interpreting services for her colleagues.

After settling in the UK, she worked as an in-house Chinese linguist for a London publishing house, where she learnt her skills in subtitling and desktop publishing.

Winnie has a master's degree in linguistics and information processing from Leeds University. She holds a postgraduate diploma in law from the College of Law (Birmingham), a diploma in public service interpreting in English law and is a registered public service interpreter in English law.

She is an avid reader, particularly interested in crime stories and science fiction.
